Uma Mahajan, 3rd Year PhD Student, Microbiology umahaja@clemson.edu.
Uma is investigating the the interaction betweenF. tularensis biofilms and Culex mosquito larvae. She has successfully defended her proposal defense and May 2010 presented the first part of her research at the National American Society for Microbiology Meeting. Uma has successfully passed her comprehensive exams and recently published her manuscript in FEMS Microbiology Ecology.

Tara Raftery, 3rd Year MS Student, Environmental Toxicology
trafter@clemson.edu
Tara is investigating the interaction of metallic nanoparticles and biofilms and the potential use of these nanoparticles for removal of contaminating biofilms. Tara presented a portion of her research at the International Nano2010 meeting in August. Tara was second author on our paper in Nanotoxicology, has submitted a second manuscript that is currently in revision as well as assisting in writing an upcoming review article on issues in microbe-nanoparticle research.

Jordan Burbage, 1st Year Masters Student, Environmental Toxicology,
Jordan joins us to conduct research on the interactions of gold nanoparticles and components of microbial biofilm matrices. He will be working closely not only with microbiologists, but also environmental toxicologists and materials scientists here at Clemson.
