MICRO 494H Creative Inquiry Opportunity
Biofilm Interactions
The McNealy lab is recruiting outstanding undergraduates (freshman, sophomore or junior status) to join our lab based creative inquiry group in Summer or Fall 2012. This group researches interactions of microbial biofilms with biotic and abiotic components. Examples of current projects include the effect of gold and platinum nanoparticles on amoebal feeding of biofilms and analysis of pathogenic versus nonpathogenic biofilm feeding on development of mosquito larvae.
If you are interested in interactions between the prokaryote and eukaryote world, the effects of anthropogenic contamination on microbes or another biofilm interaction that we haven't thought of yet, contact Dr. McNealy or any lab member for more information.
Requirements are completion of MICRO 305 (other sophomore level laboratory courses may substitute) and honors status. Biological sciences, microbiology, genetics, chemistry and biochemistry majors welcome. Three semester commitment minimum.
